Walking the Talk

by Corbyn
Most everybody for the last few years has been singing some song about sustainability. Whether it be living green in your own home, or being socially responsible in the way you run your company, it seems that 'sustainable' has become the latest buzz word everywhere we look. It may be new to some, but living sustainability is not just some craze or temporary phase that is going to disappear in a few years. The idea has been around since the beginning of time! There are lots of individuals in today’s world who have been doing their part for a long long time. However, there are lots of people who are just learning about sustainability. They are figuring out where they fit and how they can be responsible for the footprint they leave behind. So where do these two groups meet? Shouldn't there be a place where people doing good for the environment and people looking for a place to do good come together? Someplace where people can learn, share, and unite in their efforts to make this world a better place? O wait... there is! In fact, that is exactly why I am writing this blog! I want to share a super exciting company that is inspiring change and collaboration on a global scale.
Enter 1% for the Planet. You may have heard of 1% For the Planet or at least seen their logo slapped on
some product that you picked up on one of your shopping outings. 1% For The Planet is a growing global movement of 1,237 companies that donate 1% of their sales to a network of 2,005 non-profit organizations worldwide. They started with 'number one' and have created a place for business owners to work together and give back to Mother Earth. Through 1% For the Planet, supporters from well known companies like Patagonia and New Belgium Breweries to small mom and pop shops in every nook and cranny of the globe, over $30 million dollars has been donated to environmental non-profit organizations since 2001! 1% For the Planet has been walking their talk for nearly a decade and inviting businesses all over to be a part of a larger movement that is more than the bottom line of their income statements.
The reason I want to highlight them today in our blog is because Plant With Purpose is a proud member of that network of organizations working to restore this wonderful place we call our home. 1% recently highlighted our relief and recovery work in Haiti, and we have seen a great response from businesses around the world (literally.. from Luxembourg to Canada). Last week 1% FTP posted their blog supporting our work and directing their members to Plant With Purpose, and since then two businesses have committed 1% of their of annual sales to our rebuilding work in Haiti.
Many thanks to the folks at 1% For the Planet for creating a network and community of individuals with a passion for taking care of the earth we share. Additionally, thank you to Mobile Tribe in Luxembourg, and Organic Fair Inc. in Canada for contributing your 1% to the people of Haiti.
Join 1% For the Planet here!
